The 2009-2010 Season

SHAKESPEARE'S R&J
adapted by Joe Calarco
November 12 through December 20, 2009

Unlike anything you've ever seen... a vibrant new version of Romeo & Juliet. Set in a modern Catholic boarding school, this brave and original adaptation spins the tale of “starcross'd lovers” into a journey of astonishing discoveries.

THE LADY WITH ALL THE ANSWERS
by David Rambo
January 22 through March 14, 2010

A hilarious glimpse into the life of advice columnist, Ann Landers. For decades she answered letters on topics including housekeeping in-the-buff, making love in a motorcycle helmet, the proper way to hang toilet paper, and wandering spouses. Set in 1975, we find Ann facing a crucial deadline - and the advice she is writing is for herself!

SOUVENIR
by Stephen Temperley
April 16 through May 23, 2010

For more than half a century the name Florence Foster Jenkins has been guaranteed to produce explosions of derisive laughter. This wealthy eccentric believed she was a great coloratura soprano, when in fact she was incapable of producing two consecutive notes in tune. Jenkins' tone-deaf singing recitals at Carnegie Hall have become the stuff of legend and this musical comedy hilariously revisits the great lady who never met a note she couldn't massacre.

REASONS TO BE PRETTY
by Neil LaBute
June 18 through August 1, 2010

“The best new Broadway play of the season” (Time) comes from the most incisive referee of the battle of the sexes. Four friends confront a sea of deceit and infidelity as they try to answer that oh-so-American question - how much is “pretty” worth?

BROKE-OLOGY
by Nathan Louis Jackson
September 10 through October 17, 2010

Set in a poor African-American neighborhood in Kansas City, Kansas, Broke-ology is both funny and moving in its exploration of family loyalty and "staying alive despite your broke-ness." It's a story with universal resonance in its themes of caring for family and the push-pull of ambition and responsibility.

Change is good. Productions, dates, artists (everything!) subject to change. Refunds do not occur.

ve a totally new experience when you visit TheaterWorks! We are still Hartford's home for the latest dramas, comedies and musicals that are usually sold-out in New York, Chicago, and London - not in a huge, impersonal venue - but in a gem-like 200 seat theater where the farthest seat is only eight rows from the stage. You can still see major stars from Broadway, film and television in a setting this intimate. But, whether you are a long-time friend of TheaterWorks or a first-time visitor, your trip to City Arts on Pearl is now a feast for your eyes and tastebuds. Arrive early or stay after the show and enjoy masterworks from the New Britain Museum of American Art in our new Gallery of American Art and indulge in wines and cuisine in bistro233, our new gallery cafe.  Please join us for downtown Hartford's newest destination for the hottest in theater, art, and more!
